Ceramics Gallery

Ceramics is Fink’s love and as much as he enjoys working with other materials, he always ends up returning to clay. Using sculpture clay that absorbs less water allows his pieces to be hung outside, as they are designed to endure the elements. Fink began creating ceramics in 1996 for a show at the Clay Studio and never looked back. The tiles themselves have evolved tremendously in technique and presentation. Working with ceramics is so demanding physically that after producing a big body of work he likes to visit another medium for a time. Once he begins to miss the material nature of clay he comes back to it with a fresh perspective. Ignoring formalities within the medium has allowed him to incorporate other mediums into his ceramic pieces — such as painting. Although he works with ceramics, he doesn't consider himself a sculptor as much of his work is two-dimensional.
